Denni Tommasi is an Associate Professor at the University of Bologna (Italy). Prior to this position, he served as an Assistant Professor at the same University from 2021 to 2023, and at Monash University (Australia) from 2018 to 2021. He holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the Université libre de Bruxelles (Belgium).

He is an applied microeconomist with a primary interest in labor and development economics, and their intersections with causal inference methods. Within these fields, his research focuses on understanding the microeconomic determinants of well-being in several domains. He aims to answer the question: Why are some people worse off than others and what can we do about it? His research is organized around three main pillars. First, he studies the dynamics of the family and the functioning of the labor markets. Second, he designs randomized control trials (RCTs) to explore ways to induce people to adopt behaviors or technologies that are likely to increase their welfare. Third, he develops econometric techniques that help evaluating the effects of welfare policies.
