Angus Holford is a Research Fellow at the Institute for Social and Economic Research (ISER) at the University of Essex. He is funded by the ESRC research centre on Micro-Social Change (MiSoC) and a major ESRC project on socio-economic inequalities in access to and outcomes from Higher Education.

His main research interests are in family, labour and education economics, with a particular interest in the mechanisms determining human capital investments in and by children and young people, and socio-economic differences in the returns to these investments.

He obtained his PhD from the University of Essex in January 2015. He served as a Research Fellow to the Behavioural Insights Team (‘Nudge Unit’) at the UK government Cabinet Office in 2012-2013, received his MSc in Applied Economics and Data Analysis from the University of Essex in 2011 and BSc in Economics from Lancaster University in 2010.

He joined the IZA as a Research Affiliate in November 2014.
