Markus Gehrsitz is an Associate Professor (Senior Lecturer) at the Department of Economics at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow. He completed his PhD at the City University of New York Graduate Center in 2016 and attended the University of Cologne for his undergraduate studies. During his studies in New York he worked as a research assistant at the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER).

His research interests are in applied microeconometrics, labor economics, health economics, environmental economics, economics of education, and economics of crime. He is particularly interested in the causes and consequences of risky behavior.

He joined IZA as a Research Affiliate in September 2016 and became an IZA Research Fellow in November 2021.
