Dr. Jennifer A. Heissel is an associate professor of Manpower & Economics at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, CA. Her research examines relationships between family dynamics, health, and performance and how programs and policies affect families and children. Jenni earned her Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Sociology from the University of Notre Dame, a Master of Public Policy from Duke University, and a Ph.D. in Human Development and Social Policy from Northwestern University. Her research has been cited in popular press outlets such as The Atlantic, The Washington Post, The New York Times, and The New Yorker, and her research has been published in leading academic journals such as Journal of Human Resources, Demography, Child Development, Pyschoneuroendocrinology, and American Psychologist. Her research has been funded by the United States Navy, the Defense Health Agency, and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. Jennifer Heissel joined IZA as a Research Fellow in April 2023.
